Comment on [R.L. Ingraham, Phys. Rev. A 50, 4502 (1994)]. Ingraham suggested ``a delayed-choice experiment with partial, controllable memory erasing''. It is shown that he cannot be right since his predictions contradict relativistic causality. A subtle quantum effect which was overlooked by Ingraham is explained.Comment: 4 pages, LaTe

START in a five-dimensional conformal domain

In this paper we give a brief review of the pseudo-Riemannian geometry of the five-dimensional homogeneous space for the conformal group O(4,2). Its topology is described and its relation to the conformally compactified Minkowski space is described. Its metric is calculated using a generalized half-space representation. Compactification via Lie-sphere geometry is outlined. Possible applications to Jaime Keller's START theory may follow by using its predecessor - the 5-optics of Yu. B. Rumer. The point of view of Rumer is given extensively in the last section of the paper. Keywords. Kaluza,Klein, Rumer, conformal symmetry, hyperbolic space, START, fifth dimension, action coordinate, 5-opticsComment: Latex, 13 pages, 3 figures, added sections 3.2. Christoffel symbols and geodesics and 3.3. {\Sigma}- as the space of hyperboloids; accepted for publication in the special volume of AACA in memory of Prof. Jaime Kelle

Adjustment of the electric current in pulsar magnetospheres and origin of subpulse modulation

The subpulse modulation of pulsar radio emission goes to prove that the plasma flow in the open field line tube breaks into isolated narrow streams. I propose a model which attributes formation of streams to the process of the electric current adjustment in the magnetosphere. A mismatch between the magnetospheric current distribution and the current injected by the polar cap accelerator gives rise to reverse plasma flows in the magnetosphere. The reverse flow shields the electric field in the polar gap and thus shuts up the plasma production process. I assume that a circulating system of streams is formed such that the upward streams are produced in narrow gaps separated by downward streams. The electric drift is small in this model because the potential drop in narrow gaps is small. The gaps have to drift because by the time a downward stream reaches the star surface and shields the electric field, the corresponding gap has to shift. The transverse size of the streams is determined by the condition that the potential drop in the gaps is sufficient for the pair production. This yields the radius of the stream roughly 10% of the polar cap radius, which makes it possible to fit in the observed morphological features such as the "carousel" with 10-20 subbeams and the system of the core - two nested cone beams.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figur

Taxa de gestação em fêmeas da raça Holandesa confinadas em free stall, no verão e inverno Gestation rate of Holstein females confined in free stall, during the summer and winter

Entre as novilhas 85,4% ficaram gestantes no verão e 78,3% no inverno (P<0,05).<br>The gestation rate was used to evaluate the reproductive performance of dairy cows and heifers confined in a free stall barn during the winter and summer seasons of 1993, 1994 and 1995. The temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH) were monitored daily during the summer (December, January, February and March) and winter (June, July and August). The rectal temperature (RT) and respiration rate (RR) were measured weekly at 9AM and 3 and 9PM, in each season, in 50% of the animals randomly selected and sorted in four groups based on their milk production. The averages of T and the temperature and humidity index (THI) were higher in the summer (25.6ºC e 75.8) than in the winter (19.0ºC e 65.3), while the RH were the same in both seasons (80.0%). The averages of RT and RR were always higher in the summer and at 3PM when compared to 9AM RT and RR (39.47ºC and 64.76 mov/min vs 38.89ºC and 44.21 mov/min). Gestation rate for milking cows was smaller in summer than in the winter. Conversely 85.4% of heifers became pregnant during the summer and 78.5% during the winter season
